With Mauka to Makai we hope to showcase the often overlooked rough under-belly of O'ahu's Windward side. Falling rain, striking cliffs, and lush jungle fauna provide for an awe-inducing backdrop to a hidden world of deceit, violence, and illicit drugs.
Akamu's story embodies the challenges and tough decisions that pressure many youths, regardless of their status and upbringing. We hope to reach a variety of audiences, while portraying a specific and authentic look at Kaneʻohe.
Mahalo for your support of our film. Our goal is to bring it to film festivals around the islands, nation, and globe - to show our pride in our aina, as well as to diversify the connotation of Hawaii in the mindsets of others.
We are humbly asking for donations to help us with expenses during this stage of post-production. There is still a ton of work to be done as we work to finalize the film for its broad release. We need funding to manage music releases, marketing elements, color correction, sound design...the list goes on. Anything helps - we thank you for your continued support.
Mahalo Nui Loa,
The Mauka to Makai Production Team
